Tons of Grace

We passed a joyful looking woman this morning as we began our usual morning dog walking ventures. Neither my dear man nor I recognized her as she quickly turned onto the sidewalk ahead of us.

She gave us a warm grin, a neighborly wave and greeted us with her climate observations. “It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it? At least for now?” We agreed with her and knew what she meant by “for now”.

The day started in glory – 84 degrees and a cloudless sunny blue sky! But the heat would soon rise over 100 degrees for this is the way of the desert. She added her regret stating that she should have gotten out earlier.

My comment to her was this, “Oh but there’s tons of grace here!” We bid her an enjoyable day before turning off on a different path. As I walked I pondered the words that seemingly sprang from my lips without effort or forethought.

Tons of Grace

“What does that even mean?”, I asked myself. One pondering question and I was off on an interesting train of thought.

Is grace heavy like a weighted blanket?

Or is grace light as a feather?

I imagine grace to be light and airy. The way I see it in my mind’s eye, grace floats down like dandelion dust without the allergic reaction. It’s soft and unencumbering.

If grace had form what form do you think it would take?

So I had to wonder, if grace is light then how much grace would equal a ton? Ha ha! How many feathers equate to a ton? How much dandelion dust would need to be collected to equal tons of grace?

Maybe I’m the only one, but these thoughts exhilarate me and spark deeper ponderings. They remind me of all that I just don’t know. And at the same time these thoughts bear witness to the miraculous engineering of the human brain.

“‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’”

Numbers 6:24-26

I pray our neighbor felt the feather like covering of grace today. And I hope maybe she delighted in the idea of “tons of grace” as much as I have on this very beautiful day.

Eyes on Jesus and Shine,

Ponders:

How many feathers are in a ton?

What was the answer you found?

If you googled that question, wow, that’s an abundance of grace!

“So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What words in this scripture highlight the idea of tons of grace?

If grace had form what form do you think it would take?

How do you imagine grace with regard to weight?

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

How does lavish remind you of abundance?
