Skulk

  • 1: to move in a stealthy or furtive manner
  • 2: to hide or conceal something (such as oneself) often out of cowardice or fear or with sinister intent

Definition from Merriam-Webster:

As I expected, a quick search for Bible references containing the word {skulk} turned up no results. Is there a Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic word that would be translated as skulking? I really have no idea; however, when I looked at synonym choices for skulk one of the options was snake.

Eyes on Jesus and Shine

Skulk. This word should wake us up. It’s such a descriptive word. And so, the simple realization that there’s a deceptive being skulking about this earth should cause us to sit up straight. Not afraid, but aware.

A skulker – he was the serpent in the Garden of Eden. Satan, he was the one skulking through the wilderness as Jesus fasted & allowed Himself to be consecrated for ministry. And still, he’s slinking around in the shadows!

So let me accomplish my daily goal here, which is to allow the one-word to turn my eyes toward Jesus.

For sure, there’s a skulker. Satan is real. He’s a liar and deceiver – always. I live with this awareness, but I refuse to give him center stage.

I will turn my eyes to Jesus who already defeated Satan by keeping His eyes on His Father. Jesus is victorious because He listened to Father God, and only spoke what He heard His Father saying. Jesus maintained communion with Father God by remaining obedient even unto death on the cross. And Jesus overcame Satan once and for always by defeating death with His resurrection.

“Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’” Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

There’s a skulker for sure. But don’t entertain a conversation with him. Remember Eve in Genesis chapter 3; it didn’t go well. Look to Jesus as your example, speak the Word of God and run toward Jesus.

Let me just ask the real questions though.

Are you okay? Is this a hurtful season for you?

Are you isolating? Do you need help?

Call someone right now. Text a friend or family member with the message “I need help” and your location. Call the National Suicide Hotline 800.273.8255 text 741741 or call 911.

Don’t try to face the skulker, the liar and deceiver alone. Cry out to Jesus. He’s right there with you.

Call a church. Ask for a pastor or a counselor. Stop at a fire station and talk to someone.

Ask for help.

I pray now in the name of Jesus that anyone reading these words who is hurting and isolating and believing the lies of the enemy would be rescued now by crying out for help. By asking Jesus to come and rescue and to save. I pray for miraculous interventions and testimonies of life renewed and restored by the saving power of Jesus through His shed blood. Jesus send angels. Send people. Rescue lost souls in the pit of despair. Your arm is not too short. Deliver and heal for Your glory Jesus. We give thanks to You God for every life saved and delivered from the kingdom of darkness. In Your Name Jesus. Amen.

Eyes on Jesus. He will take away your shame and make you able to shine with His glory.
