“He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 22:20 NIV
Soon, and very soon.
I’m setting my timer for five minutes and writing words around the idea of {soon}. This has been a day of pondering the scriptures in the very last chapter of the last book of the Bible. And well, pondering these words above as some of the last ones recorded in our holy scriptures.
Here we go…
~~~~~
Soon. Jesus told them back then – His disciples I mean – that He would go and prepare a place for them. He said that He certainly would be going away to do this work of committed love, and He said He certainly would return to retrieve His beloved.
At some time later, years I believe, the one whom Jesus loved {John} received a reminder from Jesus that He had not forgotten His promise and would indeed be returning soon.
The Bible closes with these encouraging and timeless words.
“Yes, I am coming soon.”
Jesus
I hear many Christians reciting John’s response, “Amen, come Lord Jesus!” Sometimes I hear the urgency in a voice, “Come quickly, Lord Jesus!” These are honest pleas for help as darkness in our world seems to threaten every aspect of life and truth.
And I agree wholeheartedly!
But then again I am also asking Jesus for more time and more mercy on behalf of all those in my circle of influence who have not yet surrendered their lives to His Lordship.I often feel caught up in this tension of ‘now please’ and ‘just a bit longer’.
I think of specific people – him and her and this family and those young ones. I, like many others writing and reading in this community today, feel a desperate urgency in our world. It does sometimes feel as if the end is coming…
But the tension and the urgency are good. They are motivators to pray and watch for Jesus and to share the gospel with everyone in our circles.
Jesus wants us to know that He’s coming to retrieve His beloved. He says He’s coming soon and He’s coming for all who will call upon His name and be saved.
I am an avid follower of Jesus. I have been since my early twenties when I met Him personally and received dramatic healing in my body and mind. After many years of marriage and raising sons into the teen years, I was challenged to explore the duplicity of my spoken faith followed up by fearful actions.
I received the challenge presented by both of my sons. They love me and so they dared to confront me with the truth. Chips off my proverbial block! I determined then {more than a decade ago} to overcome fear with faith that was more than words.
In my late 40's I made a decision to leave the desert wandering behind and set out to pursue the abundant life Jesus promised His disciples. I am a tentmaker {actually a reupholsterer} by day, which helps to support the call God has on my life to serve Him in my community. I thoroughly enjoy my work. Repairing and restoring throw-away furniture is a fulfilling creative outlet. More so, my Cheer House Repair and Restore business opens the door for me to interact with my community.
My passion is to walk so closely to Jesus that others want to know Him too. I love to introduce women to Him as we walk, talk, and work together hand in hand through everyday life. Nothing thrills me more than to watch someone fall so in love with Jesus through His word and conversation; learning to trust His heart and receive His great love!
I have been married to my dear man for over 30 rollercoaster years. We're simply thrilled that our latter days are more joyful and purposeful than our first. Together we have two - grown young men on their own journeys. Additionally, we share our home with 3 lively rescue pups.
I look forward to having you join me on this journey of faith...
Bold feet, humble heart
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
This is a most encouraging scripture to me too. Thank you, Lisa. #30
Maybe the end is coming,
or maybe not so soon,
and what we hear as distant drumming
is just wind beneath the moon.
Shakespeare said if we can say
‘This is the worst,’ the worst’s not yet,
and so upon this dismal day
I think that I would place my bet
on a world that totters back
to its sense of balance vague,
not yet falling to attack
of the coming hell-borne plague
which goes hidden on to grow,
which arrival we won’t guess, but know.
American Pie warned that the music has died and the holy trinity have fled and will hide.
But I believe Jesus rose again
And in hope I believe the new songs of life will soon begin.
Out of ashes comes beauty.
Out of hardship comes endurance.
We don’t have to tell you, do we?
For out of your life of pain you choose to create and sing and hope and encourage!
I too choose life and courage.
Bless you for spending precious time here reading my words.
The promise from 1 Peter is very encouraging. I am reminded of the song “Even So Come” by Kristian Stanfill. I hope that you have a wonderful weeknd!
Yes, Peter, bless him. If anyone understood grace it would be him, right. Thank you for reading and taking time to comment.
It’s a very real tension between being so eager for the Lord’s return, but asking him to tarry just a bit longer because there are loved ones still not ready. In his time. He wants them to be ready even more than I do so I must trust his timing. Visiting from FMF#12
ooh, but I so get that dichotomy of the come please and oh, but wait… this person, and that person, need to come back to the Lord….. It’s a hard one. FMF21
