Today I am participating in the Five Minute Friday with Kate Motaung and her crew of brilliant writers. The word this Friday is {follow}.

I’m setting my timer for 5 minutes and below we’ll see what words follow.

We, my dear man and I, are getting close to a year living in a new state on the other side of the country and in a new church. We’re almost a year into making new friends and learning new things.

We’re almost a year into whole heartedly together following Jesus on an amazingly scary, fun-filled adventure.

And we are doing it scared!

My daily prayer

Often, as we are meeting so many people who have no frame of reference for us, I find myself giving a brief testimony of my life following Jesus. The way I quickly describe my lifelong journey is this way…

Picture a long winding road. Jesus has always been walking the straight path, but I’ve generally taken the detours.

Gladly for me I’ve been learning how to better follow Jesus over the years. Born curious, I’m a slow learner and willful to the core; however Jesus has been patient with me.

I’ve gotten myself in a number of predicaments by following my curiosity on more detours than I care to count. Jesus has graciously pulled me up and out as He’s anticipated my cry for help. So often, He’s kindly walked and talked me through forgiveness and into healing. So many times, He’s set my feet lovingly back upon the narrow path of His intent.

And though I tend to not wander so far off the path as I once did I know it’s my tendency to meander. This is why I desire to keep my eyes on Jesus. And this is why I pray…

Teach me Your ways, Lord Jesus, that I will learn to rely on Your faithfulness. Give me an undivided heart that I will fear Your name. Psalm 86:11

Lord, You know me and You know I’m a curious ponderer. You know I get so deep in my thoughts and imagination. You know I tend to wander. But if I’ve learned anything on this long winding journey, I’ve learned that You are faithful and there’s no more joyfully adventurous place to be than by Your side. Thank You for teaching me patiently and lovingly to follow You for all my days. Amen.

I am a curious follower of Jesus. I have been since my early twenties when I met Him personally and received miraculous healing in my body and mind. After many years of marriage and raising sons into the teen years, I received a challenge to explore the duplicity of my spoken faith followed up by my fearful living choices. It was my two sons, who loved me enough to confront me with the truth. They called out the hypocrisy of fear, and I am forever thankful. Chips off my proverbial block! I determined then to overcome fear with faith that was more than words. Years ago, with my eyes open to my sin of unbelief I made a decision to leave the desert wandering behind and set out to pursue the abundant life Jesus promised His disciples. God has been faithful to teach me, grow me up, and help me to let go of all the things that used to mean security to me. My passion is to walk so closely to Jesus that others want to know Him too. I love to introduce women to Him as we walk, talk, and work together hand in hand through everyday life. Nothing thrills me more than to watch someone fall in love with Jesus through His word; learning to trust His heart and receive His great love! I have been married to my dear man for over 36 rollercoaster years. We're simply thrilled that our latter days are more joyful and purposeful than our first. Together we have helped to grow two young men, who are now married with their own families. God is continuing to help them write their own faith stories. Additionally, we share our home with an old rescue pup. I look forward to having you join me here to fix our eyes on Jesus and shine with His radiance, Lisa Psalm 34:5

    I am so grateful for His patience, and unconditional love, and that He never gives up on me even when I would long ago have run out of patience and done so myself.

  5. It’s not easy, is it, now,
    to be a follower of Christ,
    sometimes so unsure as to how
    to face what must be sacrificed?
    They need be gone, the pleasant hates
    of obnoxious politicians,
    left outside the shining gates
    of faith, along with old decisions
    to sin today and pay tomorrow,
    and put off to another day
    that owed repentance, and thus borrow
    against what we are marked to pay.
    All this must be left behind
    in those days when we were blind.
