Wonderful

I see the word {wonderful} and in relation to God’s character, I think Wonderful Counselor.

And then I’m reminded that sometimes I am in need of a counselor.

I waited patiently for the Lord;
    he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
    out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
    and gave me a firm place to stand.”
Psalm 40:1-2

Do you ever sense that you are stuck in a pit? Do you ever feel covered in the muck of a situation? Have you ever wondered if anyone sees you or hears you? Have you ever wondered, “How did I get here?”

Me too!

I’ve had and probably will have again some of those same feelings and thoughts. They’re tough to wrangle on some days and difficult to rise above in some seasons. Honestly, after following Jesus for so many years these thoughts and feelings tend to cause me to look up. I don’t welcome these hard moments and seasons in life, but I appreciate their value in helping me to know that I need help.

I have two pieces of GOOD NEWS.

  • We all have these feelings and thoughts sometimes
  • Jesus knows what to do with our feelings and thoughts

    He put a new song in my mouth,
        a hymn of praise to our God.
    Many will see and fear the Lord
        and put their trust in him.
    Psalm 40:3

    When I look up for guidance, Jesus is already there. As I cry out for help, Jesus has already reached out His hand to lift me up. In my admission that I can’t “do this” all by myself, the Light of Christ has already lighted the next step for me on His path.

    The psalms are so chock full of emotionally charged thoughts. I love them! The psalms mirror my own frail humanity, and as I read each one I feel so normal. So human. I am again reminded today to give thanks to God that He cares for our entire being. He knows how we are formed for He intricately designed us.

    God is good no matter my circumstances. Whether I got myself in the pit or the pit is the result of another person’s sin, Jesus loves me. He is faithul and He knows what He is doing. His plans for me and for you are good and loving and kind. We can trust Him as we say these words below…

    Search me, God, and know my heart;
        test me and know my anxious thoughts.
    See if there is any offensive way in me,
        and lead me in the way everlasting.
    ” Psalm 139:23-24

    Isn’t it wonderful to be able to go boldly into the Throne of God and find mercy because Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor?

    Eyes on Jesus and Shine,
