It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in humans
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
Psalm 118:8-9
~~~
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
Could not put Humpty together again.
~~~
I don’t know if you’ve ever thought
about this little rhyme,
but it contains some heavy stuff
pertaining to our time.
~~~
Now, there’s this little chubby guy
who has aspired to reach the top,
and he is probably unaware
that he’s about to drop.
~~~
But then, for reasons we’re not told,
he falls from his position.
Which causes a profound effect
upon his disposition.
~~~
And lying there now in a heap,
no more or less than trash.
He’s just one more tragic example of
life shattered in a crash.
~~~
Now, evidently, Humpty calls
to those who serve the king.
And they all come and gather round
to view this awful thing.
~~~
And they form a committee to
research and study whether
it might be feasible to try
to put him back together.
~~~
But after much ado and many weeks
and many dollars,
it is decided “Humpty’s Lost!”
by those who wear white collars.
~~~
If somehow, Humpty could have gotten
To the king, by-passing
those men who serve him on his staff
today he’d still be laughing.
~~~
Because THE KING can always make new
stuff man can’t fix at all.
And we should all remember that
the next time that we fall.
~~~
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.
Psalm 118:8-9
