shiney notes

Welcome to Shiney Notes. This is a space created specifically for our grandchildren. From time to time, Oomey and Shiney, discuss little tidbits of knowledge and wisdom we’ve learned through life experience, from the Bible, and from other people who have influenced our faith journey. We often desire to share these nuggets with our grandchildren, and yet they are too young at this point for most of these conversations. Rather than leaving these words and lessons unspoken and possibly forgotten, we thought we would write some of our words and thoughts here.

There’s no age limit for visiting this space. You are welcome to visit, read and ponder here. Thank you for being curious and for stopping by. Thank you for your desire for a child-like faith.

Sincerely,

Shiney and Oomey

Dear children, you may not be ready to read chapter books on your own, but you are ready and able to know and feel Godโ€™s great love for you. And so, Shiney and Oomy want to be part of the community who will teach you how to read, memorize and understand Godโ€™s love notes to you.

Hereโ€™s one for today. Godโ€™s love notes to you in the book of Ephesians, chapter 1, tells us the truth about who you are because God created you.

God made you. God made me and God made Oomey. God made mommy and daddy. Everyone you know and see at school and at church and in your neighborhood are all created by God.

But not everyone knows how much they are loved. Sometimes grown ups donโ€™t even understand that they are Godโ€™s creation and dearly, lavishly loved by God.

Read this post for more information on what it means to be lavishly loved.

Dear children,
Sometimes I feel myself wanting to wrestle with my words. The person in front of me is using different words, and sometimes I think my words are right. Sometimes I just want to be right.

In those moments, I am learning to pull myself away.

I can excuse myself because I need to exit the conversation and find Jesus. He’s my counselor and friend in time of need. He will give me wisdom.

I can take a walk or find a quiet place to sit and talk to Jesus instead. He understands me. I can tell Him all my words. I can even tell Him why I think I’m right.

I can be emotional with Jesus, and I can be dramatic. I can be mellow or melancholy with Him as well and simply whisper my frustration. If I really have a lot of energy and feelings built up inside, I can run or even scream into a pillow.

I call this tattling to Jesus.

He loves it when I bring my wrestling thoughts and words and emotions to Him. Jesus loves it because we can spend time together sorting through my thoughts and experiences. He appreciates me looking for Him because when I wrestle with Him, I don’t wrestle with people as much. Tattling to Jesus helps me maintain healthier relationships with the people in my life.

He helps me understand why I want to wrestle with a person over our different ideas. Jesus understands my emotions. He doesn’t mind that I am real and raw and unpolished and tattling.

Jesus likes helping me find a place of understanding and He brings peace to my soul.

Jesus is peace, my dear one. He is Immanuel; God with us.

So, dear children, when you are tempted to wrestle against flesh and blood people, take a time out. Wrestle your words with Jesus first. Tattle to Jesus.

He asks the best questions. He will help you come to rest in Him. His withness will be tangible as you experience His presence. And He will help you develop amazing relationships with people who don’t think like you.

Try it, and let me know how tattling to Jesus is helping you to have healthier conversations. How is He helping you to live in peace? Will you pray with me?

Thank You, Jesus, for helping me sort my thoughts. Thank You for asking good questions and for helping me to turn my eyes to You. Thank You for wrestling with me. Thank You for being my peace and my friend.

Thank You, Jesus, for loving me first.

I love You too. Amen.

Love you, dear children,

Shiney

PS – you can write your thoughts in a journal. You can write your questions, scriptures you are thinking about and the answers you receive from Jesus. When you write, you give your thoughts a place to land and rest – a place for your thoughts to stay. As you write, you make space in your brain for organized thinking. The tangled chaos is released and you don’t have to think in the spin cycle.

When you keep a journal, you can go back to your words. You can read your words and remember what was happening and how God brought answers. You will encourage yourself as you read what God has already done for you, and He will build your faith for what He can do in the future.

Remember to thank Jesus for helping you sort your thoughts and emotions. He loves you so much, and so does Shiney.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
