I will trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. In all my ways, I will submit to Him and He will make my path straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
So many years ago, I memorized this proverb as a prayer of commitment. I wish I could report today that I fully live out these principles on a daily basis. However, in truth, this proverb is lived out in degrees, even on my best days. Yet, my heart desires to trust God fully, and to follow Him wholeheartedly. And so this is my prayer of commitment day by day.

This Proverbs 3:5-6 passage is one of the first scriptures I memorized as a young adult. Amazingly, I was challenged by my peers at work. The Lord was so merciful and kind to allow me to be surrounded by Christian people who cared for my soul as well as my career development. One of the managers even held a weekly Bible study in the office conference room early on Friday mornings.
When I accepted the invitation of my peers, I received a brand new Bible. These precious co-workers opened my eyes wide to a whole new paradigmโฆ the Word of God. They taught me that this book was to be read often, followed and its truths engraved upon my heart and mind.
Thank you peers, co-workers, and really more than anything, Godโs family, for seeing me where I was at the time. Such a baby in my faith, these dear brothers and sisters invited me and walked with me, always pointing my eyes to look at Jesus.

Isaiah 26:3 likewise has become a memorized word, and friend for all seasons. Iโm not all the way there on this pursuit to fully trust God, but I am on my way. And, gratefully, Iโm not where I started. Iโve come a long way towards encountering Godโs peace, as I look in the rear view mirror.
Iโm committed. Iโm leaning in, and asking Jesus for His strength to trust Him more and more. Receiving grace to offer more grace. Receiving forgiveness to be able to offer more forgiveness. Asking for and receiving wisdom from on high to walk in wisdom. In Jesusโ name.
If youโve not read the Bible in a while (or have never), I encourage you, as I was encouraged, open God’s word, and read His message as letters of life and love to you personally. Take Godโs instructions to heart. Challenge yourself to memorize one of these two scriptures and pray them to God as a committed pursuit.
Let me know what happens, and how your daily life is impacted by committing to trust God more and submit your ways to Him. Are you beginning to encounter His peace?
Eyes on Jesus and Shine,
Lisa

What a blessing to have such coworkers! I got started reading the Bible regularly through the church where I became a Christian in my teens. I’m so thankful–that practice grounded me. What peace He offers through His Word.
Thank you. You are correct, the Scriptures are gold for us. We need Godโs wisdom today and every day.
I just started into a new Bible study, โRelaxedโ by Meghan Fate Marshman. Itโs 7 weeks of studying through Proverbs3:5-6. I highly recommend her book and study.
Reading His Word daily is such a priceless privilege, Lisa. What a precious memory of your coworkers of faith surrounding you as a new Believer.
